Yermine
Richardson
aka @popcaribe (Dominican Republic 1985)

Yermine Richardson (La Romana, 1985. Lives and works in Barcelona) is an artist and graphic creative from the Dominican diaspora who works across a multiplicity of mediums, including photography, installation, performance, and painting. Drawing from pop culture and futurism, his work explores the aesthetics of a contemporary Afro-Caribbean visuality. This is expressed through forms, chromatics, urban fashions, popular oral traditions, and the updating of Afro-diasporic imaginaries and religiosities, as well as the worldviews of pre-colonial Caribbean identities anchored to the territory and the shifting social circumstances of the 21st century. His poetics exalt Afro-descendant pride and modernize practices and traditions where the Black body becomes a presence with agency, and Black beauty serves as a political act of self-affirmation.
